Wadi Bani Khalid is a major valley in Oman's Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, extending from the Hajar Mountains toward the desert landscapes of the Sharqiyah Sands. It is known for its year-round watercourses, pools, rocky gorges, and clusters of date palms. Unlike many wadis that can become dry, Wadi Bani Khalid retains flowing water in parts of its upper valley, creating a green contrast with the surrounding arid terrain. The main pools are easily reached from the nearby village and form the focal point of the wadi, while narrower sections of the valley extend farther into the mountains.

The communities around Wadi Bani Khalid have traditionally depended on agriculture and the water supplied by the valley. Date palms, bananas, citrus trees, and other crops grow in cultivated areas supported by irrigation channels. The wadi is also connected with villages such as Badaa and Al Bidah, where traditional Omani houses and farms reflect the relationship between settlement and available water. Farther into the valley, Muqal Cave is associated with local knowledge of the wadi and its underground passages. The area illustrates how communities have established agriculture and settlements around a reliable mountain water source in a dry environment.

The main attraction is the series of clear pools surrounded by pale rock walls and date palms, where visitors can swim in designated areas. A footpath leads beyond the main pools toward Muqal Cave, passing through a narrower section of the valley with deeper channels and rocky walls. The surrounding mountains provide opportunities for walking and exploring, while the contrast between the green watercourses and the nearby desert is especially noticeable. Wadi Bani Khalid is also located within reach of Sharqiyah Sands, allowing visitors to experience both an oasis-like mountain valley and the broad dunes of Oman's interior.

Local food around Wadi Bani Khalid reflects the wider cuisine of northern Oman, with rice, grilled meat, fish, dates, flatbreads, and spiced stews commonly appearing in meals. Dates grown in the valley are an important agricultural product, while fresh fruit and vegetables are cultivated in irrigated farms. The wadi's most distinctive feature is its dependable water, which supports pools, vegetation, and farming in an otherwise dry landscape. Its combination of mountain streams, natural pools, date plantations, caves, and nearby desert terrain makes Wadi Bani Khalid one of the best-known natural areas in Al Sharqiyah.
